What is the ALRC levy for?
Tuesday December 20, 2011
A few people have asked what the Levy is for. ALRC Sec. Simone has kindly provided an explanation of this and also news of how the ALRC are helping us in running the event:
The ALRC National Rally is held each year over the Bank Holiday at the end
of May and is usually hosted and run by one or more of the ALRC member
clubs. It is a chance for members from all the ALRC member clubs to meet up
at a different venue each year and take part in competitive events or just
to socialise with old and new friends.
The entry fees for the National Rally are worked out to cover all the costs
incurred in running the event but hopefully will also make a small profit
for the clubs organising the event to make all their hard work worthwhile.
These costs range from hiring the land, putting on amenities such as
lighting, skips, toilets, water, first aid, radios, running the competitive
events and supplying marshals lunches - the list goes on.
The ALRC Levy of £2 is paid once on all entry forms. The money raised by
this is paid to the ALRC and goes towards the upkeep of the 46 perpetual
trophies held by the ALRC and awarded at the National Rally. This can
involve engraving, either when they are returned not engraved or they have
not been awarded for that year (this is done to keep continuity on the
trophies), repairs also sometimes need to be carried out to damaged trophies
and re-silvering of the older trophies is occasionally done. When trophies
become full new bases or complete trophies need to be purchased.
The ALRC Council are also very aware that in the present financial climate
clubs may be experiencing reduced membership numbers and entry figures at
their own events and that the National Rally can be costly to host initially
until the entries are all booked in and the event held.
To help with the costs the ALRC contribute the following to the hosting
club:
An initial loan to assist in setting up the event - repayable after the
event.
ALRC perpetual trophies replicas provided by the ALRC.
2 sets of trial cane tops and section markers and 200 motorsport arrows.
These can be kept by the host club after the event.
The use of 12 waterproof weatherwriters for score marshals which are
returned after the event.
The NFU Mutual are very supportive of the ALRC and they contribute to the
National Rally by giving the free use of a marquee together with tables and
chairs. (This is usually the signing on tent). In past years they have also
donated marshal vests and lanyards.
The National Rally is run by club members for the enjoyment of all ALRC
members that attend, whether they stay all weekend or just come for the day.
The host clubs this year, Lincs Land Rover Club and Peak & Dukeries Land
Rover Clubs have both run this event in the past and I am sure this one will
be as enjoyable as previous ones.
Kind regards
Simone
